Front load or Top load? The debate will never end when it comes to choosing a washing machine. While there are certain benefits for each model, let us keep that aside this time. If you already own a front load washing machine, it is a high priority to keep it clean and fresh. Because all sorts of dirt get into your clothes and it is essential to make sure that none of them impacts the hygiene or cleanliness of your washing machine. Besides, an unclean washing machine can easily add a bad smell to your clothes.

The frequency of cleaning depends on how much you use it. If you use your front load washing machine daily, once in 2 weeks is a good cleaning frequency. If you are not using your machine daily, clean it once a month at the least.

Start with the Gasket

A gasket is the rubber ring around the door of your front load washing machine. It is one of the main parts of the washing machine because without it water would be leaking out between the door and the body.

Make sure that the washing machine is empty and unplugged before attempting any cleaning process.

A microfibre cloth is the best tool to attend to the gasket. Wipe it clean neatly so that it is free of dirt and other impurities. If you notice mildew in your gasket ( black spots ), attend to it immediately using a combination of dishwashing liquid and mildly warm water. Use a clean sponge and use the cleaning solution to wipe clean the gasket. Use a piece of damp cotton cloth and wipe clean the gasket to ensure that the cleaning liquid traces are removed.

Clean the Drum

The drum is the most crucial part of the washing machine when it comes to cleaning. Make sure that dirt, grease, oily residue, detergent leftovers etc are removed so that it will not affect the cleanliness of the clothes.

Use a small amount of baking soda and sprinkle it inside the drum. Now add 1 cup of vinegar into the tray through which you add the detergent. Due to its alkaline nature, baking soda will be able to remove dirt and grease efficiently. Choose a wash cycle with a high temperature and let it undergo a complete cycle. After a full wash cycle and rinsing, the combination of vinegar and baking soda would have done its job.

Clean the Detergent Dispenser

It is one of the easy to get dirty areas of your front load washing machine. Because leftovers of the detergent can cause considerable buildup with time. When unattended, this buildup can cause a bad smell added to your clothes.

Take the tray out and dip it in the bucket of warm water for 45 minutes. Once it gets soaked well, use a dishwashing liquid and clean it well. Wipe clean and let it dry before placing it back in the machine.

Clean the Filters

Every washing machine has filters to ensure that the water entered into the machine is clean. It filters out the dirt and debris in the water inlet. Depending on your washing machine model, you will be able to manually remove the filter and use high pressure water to get rid of the accumulated dirt. This will help ensure proper water pressure and clean water during washing cycles.

Clean The Machine From Outside

It is equally important to clean the exterior of the machine to ensure its longevity and prevent dirt, hair, pet hair and other impurities from getting into the drum. It is easier to avoid them getting inside than to clean the drum of these additions. Wipe clean the exteriors using a reliable cleaning solution once a week. Make sure they are then attended to using a cotton cloth so that there is no residue of the cleaning solution left. Also, ensure that the outer area is properly dry before plugging in the washing machine.
