Window blinds are a decorative and useful option for any house, from their aesthetic appeal to the practicality of rolling them up for light or down for privacy. Furthermore, they are available in a variety of forms and materials, meaning that the cleaning procedures linked with them differ. Maintaining the aesthetic value and performance of your window blind requires knowledge of the proper cleaning techniques and materials to employ. If you employ the wrong cleaning technique, you might end up damaging your blinds which will ruin the aesthetic beauty of your house.
STEP 1
Wood attracts dust as much as fabric, so these require regular cleaning as well. You can use a good microfiber cloth to wipe horizontally across each individual blind, beginning at the top and moving downwards to the bottom. When all of the dried dust has been removed, clean the blinds from top to bottom with a dish soap and water solution. Make sure they’re completely dry so the wood doesn’t warp over time.
STEP 2
Since roller blinds have no pleats or folds, they can be soaked in a cleaning solution to refresh their colour and fabric. This can be done with a mild solution of room temperature water and laundry detergent. You can search for proper washing recommendations for your fabric roller blinds depending on the material. The cleaning procedure is different according to the fabrics, if you don't have a proper idea about the fabric it is better to handover this job to the cleaning experts. Scrub the cloth gently with a soft-bristled brush or sponge. Vacuum both sides of the roller blinds before soaking to remove as much dust and dirt as possible. Make sure you dry them thoroughly before folding them.
STEP 3
Since Venetian blinds are usually manufactured from vinyl and aluminium, no special cleaning chemicals are required; moderate dirt and stains can be removed with soap and water. Pull the blinds down till they are lying flat, then clean them with a vacuum cleaner and brush attachment, without applying too much pressure. Take a non-abrasive sponge dipped in soapy water, squeeze away excess water, and gently scrub the blinds. Dry using a clean cloth. If there is a lot of accumulated dirt, soak in soapy water and scrub clean.
STEP 4
When raised, Roman blinds have a fabric covering that pleats the cloth. Cleaning roman window blinds are simple especially if you use an upholstery attachment on your vacuum cleaner. Suction away all dirt and debris in a downward motion, including the bottom and sides, which tend to accumulate a lot of dirt. If stains remain, spray the area with a stain-removal product designed for the type of fabric and lightly rub with a clean cloth until the stain lightens or vanishes completely.
STEP 5
Vertical blinds are similar to horizontal blinds but they are often made of PVC or cloth, both of which have different cleaning requirements.
Close the vertical blinds and vacuum each slat with a brush attachment. Combine water and liquid laundry detergent in a gentle cleaning solution. Wipe your vertical blinds from top to bottom with a clean microfiber cloth dipped in the cleaning solution. Wet a clean towel and wipe the fabric to remove the cleaning agent. Allow the blinds to dry.
Using a clean microfiber cloth, wipe each vinyl vane. A glass cleaning product or mild soap and water can be used to clean vinyl blinds. Clean each vane individually with a microfiber cloth dampened with the cleaner. To avoid watermarks, wipe the blinds down with a damp towel, then dry them.
