How To Make & Use Natural Cleaning Solutions

Under the guise of making household life easier, common commercial cleaners are packed with dangerous and harmful chemicals. The expense of these chemical-based products can be considerable, with long-term health issues for the family and pollution of the environment from their use and disposal. Many of these cleaners contain chemicals that trigger allergies or asthma. Simple chemicals and substances are used in homemade or natural cleaning solutions to remove filth, deodorise, and, in certain circumstances, disinfect surfaces. If you’re unsure, you can use a store-bought disinfectant to make sure no hazardous organisms remain. However, these homemade cleaning solutions should suffice for everyday cleaning.

HOMEMADE CLEANING SOLUTIONS

STEP 1

Carpet Deodorizer

To freshen up area rugs and floors, make a carpet deodorizer. In a large mixing bowl, combine 1 cup baking soda and 1/2 cup cornstarch, then add 5 drops of your chosen essential oil. Stir to blend the ingredients, then use a funnel to pour the mixture into a glass jar. Punch small holes in the jar’s lid using a hammer and nail. As needed, sprinkle the homemade deodorizer on carpets. Before vacuuming up the mixture, let it sit for at least 30 minutes.

STEP 2

Kitchen Cleaner

Baking soda is an excellent deodorizer that can also be used to polish stainless steel sinks and appliances. To deodorise your kitchen, pour baking soda straight from the package into your drain or garbage disposal or make a baking soda solution. Make a paste of baking soda and water to polish stainless steel and eliminate stains. Use a moist cloth to apply it and massage gently along the grain of the metal. Rinse well and pat dry.

STEP 3

Wood Cleaner

In a bowl combine half a cup of lemon juice, a quarter cup of water, half a teaspoon of natural liquid soap, and a few drops of olive oil. Soak a good sponge in the solution, squeeze out the excess and use this to scrub wooden surfaces clean of dirt and grime. Once you finish cleaning, use a clean microfiber cloth to dry the wooden part thoroughly.

Window cleaner

To make this cleaning solution, combine a quarter teaspoon of washing soda, half a cup of hot water, a quarter teaspoon of liquid soap or detergent, and two cups of club soda. Fill a spray bottle halfway with hot water and dissolve the washing soda. Combine the liquid soap with club soda (which is also recommended for cleaning stainless steel countertops and porcelain sinks). Shake well to mix everything thoroughly, then spray over the area and wipe clean.

STEP 5

Upholstery freshener

Fill a 12-ounce spray bottle with a quarter cup of baking soda using a funnel. Drop ten to twelve drops of your chosen essential oil into the mixture. Fill the bottle halfway with water and gently shake to mix. Spray your upholstery whenever it needs to be refreshed. Always spot test new cleaners on a hidden area of the upholstery before applying the solution to the rest of the furniture. If you dont want to take risk then you can hire an upholstery cleaning service to make it clean and fresh.

STEP 6

Air freshener

Many of the chemical air fresheners available in the market contain substances that can trigger allergies or even irritate those with respiratory issues. Skip the store-bought sprays and in their place try this natural air freshener, which requires just three ingredients. Combine three cups of water, one cup of vodka, and ten to twelve drops of essential oil in a spray bottle. Use this solution to spray areas of your house that need freshening up.
