5 Simple Tips To Clean Bathroom Mats

Bathroom carpets attract hair and dust, and if the ventilation is bad, mold and mildew can grow too. It’s not unusual to go months without washing the bath mats but they require regular cleaning and upkeep due to the amount of use they receive. Bathroom rugs should be washed twice a month or twice a week at the very least. While the rubber backing makes them safer to use on tiled floors like those found in bathrooms, it also means you can’t simply throw them in the washing machine like other laundry. Knowing how to properly wash bathroom mats can ensure that they are clean without being destroyed.

Shake Out Dust

Check the care tags on your bathroom rugs to make sure you’re not instructed to use any special cleaning chemicals or settings in the washer or dryer. After that, take your bathroom rugs outside and shake them vigorously. In between cleanings, you should do this at least once a week. If your bathroom rugs have a plastic or rubber backing, clean it up with a dry microfiber cloth as well.

Washing It In A Machine

A bath mat can be laundered in a machine but sufficient care must be taken when doing so. Cotton, polyester, nylon, chenille, memory foam, and plastic are among the materials used in machine-washable bath mats. Add washing detergent to help with cleaning. The easiest way to kill bacteria or mold is to use high heat. For cotton, polyester, and nylon carpets, choose a warm or hot setting. For all rugs, use a gentle cycle setting.

Scrub your mat in the tub with a sponge. Rinse the mat thoroughly until no soap residue remains. To dry, hang the mat outside. Mix one-fourth cup vinegar with one-fourth cup water to make a solution. Procure a clean spray bottle, fill the bottle halfway with the fluid and spray the mat with it. Make sure the remedy reaches every corner. Scrub the mat vigorously with a piece of fabric. But don’t slam it down too hard. Scrub it thoroughly until there is no longer any odour and no visible dirt. Finally, run it under running water to clean it. Under the sun or with a fan, dry it thoroughly.
