5 Daily Tips to Organise a Small Kitchen
Organising and maintaining a clean kitchen is quite a task, no matter where we live. One of the main reasons for this is the lack of time. Food spills and waste contribute enough to make kitchen cleaning a big challenge. From stovetop to oven, it is a tiring task to keep everything in order daily. Cleaning the kitchen is not a “ do it once and forget it “ task. It takes continuous attention and intervention to make sure that our kitchen is maintaining the hygiene standards we have set for ourselves. After some period your kitchen needs an expert cleaning touch to again the freshness of your kitchen.
One easy method to deal with kitchen cleaning is to do it regularly. This will also help in controlling pest infestation. But for a lot of people, the space they have for the kitchen is limited. Not everyone has the luxury of a spacious kitchen with enough room to try experiments while cleaning.
Easy to Reach
If you have a cramped kitchen, and still want to make things easier, the first step is to keep the essentials within your reach. There is no point running in and out of the kitchen for basic items like salt and sugar. Try to dedicate an easy to access shelf for such items, one within arm’s reach.
This can be quite challenging but needs our priority attention. Make a list of important items and try to trim them efficiently. The dedicated storage space can be at a safe distance from the stove or oven.
Quantity Matters
While it is smart to keep spices and other daily use items at hand, it will be a bad idea to keep them in large quantities. The same goes for almost every item if you have small storage space. We can always replenish it every week on weekends to make sure that we do not have to try refilling them every day.
Quantity is also a variable factor. A lot of items are seasonal. We might not have to keep the same levels all the time. Try to change the list at optimal intervals so that you are always left with enough ingredients to use.
Container Size
This could be a game-changer when organising a small kitchen space. Because we need to plan correctly for the right size of container for each item. It would be unwise to keep too much of an item, or a very small quantity of it.
Just like the quantity is a variable factor, the size of the container is one too. We have to choose the right one to keep seasonal items. For example, when kids are at home for vacation their kind of food and snacks takes priority.
Use The Dead Space
It is ok to try and create racks and shelves out of unused space. Try to be innovative and add extra space where we can store containers filled with ingredients. Make sure they are strong enough and can withstand the weight. It will be helpful later on if we do not make the fitting permanent. That way we can try and change them to suit the needs of the time.
Portable Kitchen Storage
Let us not overuse whatever little space that is available to us. Let us experiment with portable storage units to enhance the kitchen experience. There are a lot of items that do not need their permanent residence in the kitchen. Such items can always come and go to make things easier.
