5 Tips To Clean Sliding Door Tracks

If you have a sliding door in your home, you’re surely aware of the dirt and filth that tends to clog the track. Dirt and debris get lodged in the small channels of your sliding door track due to regular use. This dirt can build up over time, preventing the rollers on your sliding glass door from moving smoothly. A clogged track can even cause a sliding glass door to get stuck when opening and closing. Simple kitchen cleaners can be used to clean your door tracks, or you can use simple homemade solutions to remove stubborn grime. You can apply similar methods to clean the window tracks too.

WAYS TO CLEAN SLIDING DOOR TRACKS

Routine Cleaning

Use a vacuum attachment to clean the corners. Try to lift as much dirt or debris as possible since this will make cleaning easier. In a bucket, combine 1 cup (240 ml) of water and a few drops of denatured alcohol or dish soap. Combine all of the ingredients and stir well. Use a wire brush and the cleaning solution to scrub the tracks clean. Work your way across the tracks, concentrating on the areas with stuck-on dirt.

Cleaning Stubborn Dirt

In a spray bottle, combine equal parts cold water and white vinegar and give the bottle a good shake. You can also use baking soda to clean the dirt from the tracks of your sliding doors. Spray the tracks with the vinegar solution and wait five to ten minutes for it to fizz. Using a toothbrush, scrub the dirty areas. Use a rag or a microfiber cloth to remove extra dirt and grime. Keeping your door tracks clean is important when you live in a rented house. If you have neglected to do so, hire a reputed bond cleaning service who will take care of the issue.

Clean With Baking Soda And Hydrogen Peroxide

Sprinkle a fine layer of baking soda over the track to completely cover it. Pour hydrogen peroxide into the tracks and let it sit for 10 to 15 minutes. The mixture of baking soda and hydrogen peroxide will cause a reaction that will elevate the visible (and unseen) filth to the top. After the dirt has been lifted, wipe off the track with a cleaning cloth or paper towel. If necessary, rinse and remove any remaining residue with a little water.

Lubricating The Tracks

Once the tracks have been cleaned, apply a silicone lubricant. Point the nozzle into the tracks and spray the lubricant. Wipe away any excess lubricant with a towel once you’re done spraying the tracks. This will also aid in the distribution of the lubricant across your tracks. A hole in the side of your sliding glass is almost certain. The lubricant will lubricate the inside wheels of your door by spraying it here.

Using WD-40

Before you use any lubricant on your sliding door tracks, double-check with the manufacturer to see what you can and can’t use. WD40 works on stainless steel, aluminium, bronze, copper, and brass, but may cause damage to other metals. Simply spray WD40 along the length of the track and let it sit for 5 minutes before cleaning it. Slide the door gently through the track to spread the lubrication. You should be able to open and close your sliding door smoothly.
