Cleaning Checklist for Each Bathtub Type

Porcelain Tubs

Cleaning a porcelain enamel tub should be the same way you clean a mirror or a window

  • Don’t use harsh or acidic cleaners
  • Do not use cleaners containing dyes
  • Clean or remove rust or hard water stand as soon as possible
  • Clean after each using a soft rag to rub and dry the tub
  • Do not use scouring powder, abrasive cleaners, or steel wool
  • Do not use chlorine bleach-based cleaner
  • Clean the tub weekly
  • Make a mixture of a few tablespoons of dish soap with a gallon of hot water
  • Wipe down the tub with a soft sponge
  • Thoroughly rinse the cleaner off with fresh water
  • Wipe the surface again with a dry soft cloth

Acrylic Tubs

Unique tub shapes can be created using acrylic material, so these tubs are becoming popular

  • Fill the tub with hot water and vinegar
  • Let it sit for 15 minutes
  • Drain the tub
  • Sprinkle baking soda in the tub while it’s still wet
  • Let it sit in the tub for a few minutes
  • Scrub the acrylic tub using a soft cloth
  • Avoid rough scrubbing
  • Use a toothbrush to scrub corners and edges
  • Treat any stains with lemon juice
  • Rinse the tub

Cultured Marble Tubs

It is made from marble dust and resin. It is a hard polymer and is not as porous as the natural stone marble

  • Use an alkaline cleaner approved for bathtub cleaning
  • After cleaning, wipe the area with a soft rug
  • Clean the bathtub weekly

Fibreglass Tubs

This is an inexpensive alternative material used to make durable bathtubs. And cleaning them is fairly easy.

  • Mix vinegar and baking soda with water
  • Apply it to any stains or water spots in the tub
  • Allow the paste to sit there for sometime
  • Scrub it with a sponge
  • Rinse the tub and dry it
