Your bedroom should ideally be a place of tranquillity and relaxation. However, it’s difficult to feel at ease if odours accumulate in your quarters. It’s crucial to get rid of unwanted odours in your home, but rather than masking the odour with possibly toxic chemicals, you should first figure out why your house smells the way it does. Once you’ve identified the source of the odour, you can take steps to eliminate it. Fortunately, there are several techniques to freshen up your bedroom without causing harm to yourself or others.
Ways to deodorise
Open the windows
Opening the windows and letting the sunlight and fresh air in is the quickest way to freshen a stale-smelling room. Unless you live near a major highway or an industrial region, the air quality inside your home is likely to be lower than outside. Fresh air is the best, and direct sunshine can kill mold and other microorganisms that cause odours. Make it a habit to open your bedroom windows every morning for as long as the weather and privacy allow.
Dust your room
Dusting is the next step in making your room smell fresh. Dust is made up of a variety of indoor and outdoor particles, including everything from dead skin and pollen to pet dander and bug droppings. While dust may not appear to be a major concern in and of itself, the various components of dust can induce allergic symptoms. Dust from top to bottom, wiping down hard surfaces with a moist cloth. Remember to put on a mask to keep the dust out of your lungs. If you suffer from respiratory ailments, you can always hire a reputed house cleaning service for help.
Clean your bedding
Each night, your mattress collects a significant amount of bodily oils, fluids, and shed skin particles. If you don’t launder them regularly, your sheets will begin to smell unpleasant. Once a week, wash your linens and pillowcases, and at least once a season, launder your comforter (every 3 months). Instead of making your bed right away after waking up, draw the covers down for at least 30 minutes to allow the mattress to air out.
Freshen the carpets
For obvious reasons, both aesthetic and comfort, carpet is the most popular choice for bedroom flooring. However, carpeting has the disadvantage of retaining bacteria, mold, pollen, and grime from your feet or the soles of your shoes. These can develop a foul odour over time. Baking soda can be used to deodorise your carpet instead of harsh chemicals. Simply spread a thick layer of the powder over your carpet, let it sit for at least an hour, and then vacuum the powder and the odour away.
Clean out the garbage can
If you have a trash can in your room, remember to empty it regularly and clean it with a commercial spray and an old rag. Also, to get rid of all the foul contaminants, spray it with some air freshener. Look for a garbage can with a tight-fitting cover. This can help contain any unwanted scents. If at all possible, avoid throwing food waste in your bedroom rubbish bin, as even in a covered container, food garbage can cause bad odours in a room.
